Mera Peak Climbing ( 6465 mtrs )
The Mera peak stands at an impressive 6,476m and is situated south of ‘Everest’ in the relatively isolated Hinku and Hongu valleys. The Mera peak is justly regarded as one of the most popular and sought after mountaineering expeditions in the whole of Nepal. Himalaya Caravan Adventure are proud to present this spectacular to you; As one of the highest trekking peaks on Earth, the Mera peak offers a panoramic view of surrounding peaks Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Everest and Cho Oyu, which are all over a whopping 8,000m high!
Mera’s peak was first successfully conquered by Col. Jimmy Rodgers and Sen Tenzing on the 20th
of May, 1953. The exhibition now begins with a pleasurable flight into the heart and soul of the Sherpa-land, Lukla, where people still graze yaks and cook on yak dung. From here this breath taking trek pursues a trail that crosses a high pass into a pristine valley, then acclimatisation is gradually gained as the base camp is approached. The trek for the following day aims to reach the high camp situated on a majestic glacier, from here the summit will be attempted.
Although the standard route from ‘Mera La’ is technically straight forward, attempting Mera from the west and south faces is hard and is compromised with some difficult challenges. This is especially tru in heavy snow fall or when the mazes of deep glacial crevices are open.
This trip is challenging and is aimed towards the more experienced mountaineer, although it is ideal for someone who wants to advance from the beginning level and those with a good fitness level and a high level of enthusiasm. There are some difficult passes and there is the issue of altitude to deal with but there is the precious reward of witnessing one of the most breath taking and beautiful panoramic views on Earth, plus there is the joy of going over 6000m. The opportunity to visit one of remotest and unspoiled regions of Nepal and our planet should be a huge motivation for this Himalaya Caravan Adventure.
